Burgerfi, Raleigh NC: The second unit in a sequence of projects with this concept, RdM Architecture had built its trust and was awarded the design and construction without any competitive bid process. With the same unique blend of materials, RdM Architecture continued to refine design and construction details with the corporate franchise construction managers. With an ‘L’ shaped floor plan, the architect was challenged with a creative resolution of kitchen planning, cook line and service counter. An existing outdoor patio was reconstructed and enhanced with metal wall panels and sliding glass door systems to meet the exterior profile of corporate design directives.

Burgerfi, Cary NC: A unique blend of materials, this design concept explodes with natural woods, multiple metals and polished concrete to create a raw fresh industrial setting to compliment the all natural craft burgers. Pushing the exterior facade wall slightly deeper into the tenant space creates a covered and protected outdoor dining space. With the use of storefront glazing and bi-fold glass door systems, the indoor and outdoor areas combine to flow freely from one to the other during those temperate Carolina days.

Burgerfi, North Myrtle Beach SC: Having previously committed to our single sourced Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) services, this NC/SC franchise ownership had already experienced the benefits of our IPD process in two previous restaurant projects. And with a franchise that was still learning its way, our design and construction teams collaborated and communicated closely with each other, local and state building and health officials, franchise representative and franchisee to create this $1M renovation of a prominent corner parcel in this beach town. The first freestanding unit in the franchise, RdM contributed its design impact with new prototype grill, revamped prototype cook and expediting lines, walk up take-away window, dedicated bar and outdoor seating; and the signature covered outdoor dining.

Burgerfi, Raleigh NC

  • The firm’s second restaurant project with this new franchisee required all new HVAC, electrical and plumbing in 2,800 sf space
  • client’s repeat use of a single sourced Integrated Project Delivery
  • Worked with landlord, client and building department during design permitting phases to reclassify building occupancy reducing or eliminating rated wall requirements
  • relocated existing rear exit door and added a second in existing masonry wall, added grease trap system
  • Southern yellow pine 2x4s and perforated metal panels trimmed with black metal angles make the interior wall finishes
  • Polished stained concrete floors, custom chromed meat hook chandeliers and a coated black metal service counter provide additional interior industrial themed elements
  • Black acoustical tiles sit atop perforated metal ceiling panels for the overhead ceiling system providing that industrial look and offering some acoustical value
  • Wood laminated micro beams, 6″ thick weighing 300-500 pounds set on wide flange column legs are used for community style dining options
  • Big Ass fans provide a combination of air movement, visual movement and enhanced industrial aesthetics

Burgerfi, North Myrtle Beach SC

  • Renovation of this 5,000 sf building, having sat empty for about 4 years, required attention to a deteriorating structure along with facade changes to meet franchise design criteria
  • Site improvements were made to improve vehicular circulation, delivery truck access, increase parking spaces, removal of drive through lane and upgrades to landscaping
  • The existing building was made up of two separate structures, the original gas station and a Burger King requiring resolution of two large separate electrical services
  • Non-sprinklered building with its 100+ assembly occupancy required 2-hour building separation and two separate fire shutters
  • New wind load codes required all new glazing meet impact resistant glazing requirements in both multi panel sliding glass patio doors used to open a 30′ section of wall to the outdoor patio and the overhead door system atop the indoor/outdoor bar surface
  • With builders risk insurance in place, the owner benefitted when a lightning strike required a rooftop HVAC unit be replaced
