Cassidy Residence

Cassidy Guest Residence:  This Owner purchased 3 contiguous lots on Lake Norman in North Carolina, north of Charlotte and RdM Architecture reimagined the entire collection of properties as one. We wove them into a grand master plan with a new gated and walled entry and drive; stone bridge over luscious stone and plant bordered ponds and waterfalls; and grove of trees with a central fire pit. Then emerging from the wooded entryway, views open onto vast lake views while off to the left this guest house, the beach and the Owner’s dog kennel on the right before settling in front of the primary residence. Citing their privacy, the Owner turned down an invitation by Home and Garden to film its design and development.

  • Lake living is further connected by the second floor balconies with multiple views of the lake, beach, main house and grounds
  • The exterior materials are meant to excite the visitor and establish the Owner’s prominence in the neighborhood
  • The stone foundation of the corner element provides covered seating and rises to connect the first floor exterior patios and circulation while providing the base of the sitting area on a second floor bedroom
  • The house was designed with a dry non-vented crawl space and attic creating a thermal envelope surrounding the entire structure to below grade

  • On about 6 acres off Alcove Lane in Mooresville, this almost 3,000 SF structure was part of the overall master plan by the firm
  • Complimenting the guest house design, also by RdM Architecture, this one story building used similar materials and design details while adding a special motif for its actual function
  • The two-story entry room welcomes visitors, customers and the like to the building that houses up to 10 Wiemaraners that are trained by Ms. Cassidy for her champions and breeding and training for other interested parties
  • The entry meeting and lounge space also acts as a living space for the live in trainer. A bedroom, kitchen and bathroom space at the rear of the building offers a secluded respite for the live in trainer
  • The kennel includes a full grooming spa room and can serve as a treatment room with animal hospital grade equipment and lighting if needed
  • An office and kennel space with automated interior and exterior gate access to runs provide housing for up to ten dogs
  • The actual kennel room includes epoxy painted concrete block and epoxy floors for ease of cleaning, perforated ceiling panels for acoustical control and special lighting to be dog friendly.
  • A receiving and storage room with washer and dryer, utility sink and outdoor patio were designed to meet program needs and to compliment the north end entry balancing the façade design.
